born out of the sea by a volcano about 30 million years ago is surrounded by 365 lush beaches of white sand and caves. Barbuda is home to a diversity of native habitats, the largest breeding and pink sandy beaches, reefs, lagoons and abundant wildlife surround nesting colony of the Magnificent Frigate Bird in the world. Antigua has a population of mostly made up of people of West African, British, and Madeiran descent. The ethnic distribution consists of 91% Black & Mulatto, 4.4% mixed race, 1.7% White, and 2.9% other (primarily East Indian and other Asian). Most Whites are of British descent. Christian Levantine Arabs, and a small number of Asians and Sephardic Jews make up the remainder of the population.
Antigua and Barbuda lie in the eastern arc of the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, separating the Atlantic Ocean from the Caribbean Sea. Antigua is 650 km (400 mi) southeast of Puerto Rico; Barbuda lies 48 km (30 mi) due north of Antigua, and the uninhabited island of Redonda is 56 km (35 mi) southwest of Antigua.
