Legendary Jamaican singer and internationally known recording artist, Carlene Davis has just introduced Enoch Thomas to the world, via their cover performance of Oh Holy Night. Enoch is a ten-year-old Antiguan Gospel singer. The multitalented child, who started to sing at the tender age of 4, is the drummer of his church, Wesleyan Holiness Church.

He is a member of the renowned gospel band One Sound Entertainment and a backup for the church’s Worship Service Ministry. He is currently in Jamaica where Carlene Davis and himself just recorded the recording of the song. The Reggae version of the song was co- produced by Camar (Flavor) Doyles and legendary producer Tommy Cowan.

Enoch

“I couldn’t believe I was singing with the real Carlene Davis,” was Enoch response when asked about the experience. He had heard many of her songs played in his home by his mother, who is a Christian and the leader of the Worship Team. He continued, “It made me feel like a star.”

Carlene Davis decision to get involved in this project was an act of Devine Intervention. “I had just completed a recording session when my song Nathan reached out to me.” I listened the demo, and once my husband Tommy Cowan gave his nod of approval, we both emerged ourselves into the production. The first thing needed to be done was to replace the digital instrument Mr. Camar Doyles had used to create the music, with live instruments. Thus, Tommy Cowan called in some of the top musicians in Jamaica to put live instruments to the track. As the excitement grew, it was arranged to have the young artist flown from Antigua to record his vocal. Once in Jamaica, Carlene Davis worked with Enoch, not only to make his words clearer than what was in the demo, but helped to produce some vocal melody. Carlene Davis is not just a hard, dedicated worker but a perfectionist- “If we were going to do this, we had to do it correct,” she said.

Tommy Cowan himself was impressed with young Enoch Thomas and exclaimed, “He remines me of Nelson Stuart.” For the younger generation who may not have heard of Nelson ‘Stuie” Stuart: he was a talented young signer, who won the national competition in 1983. However, we lost this rising start in a triatic accident when he moved to live in the US. Tommy Cowan who also worked with the young Junior Tucker, knows a diamond in the rough when he sees one.

Everyone is hoping that this recording will open doors to the young Antiguan gospel artist as he spread Gods word through music. His parents who are his managers, mother Leshel Thomas and father Kitwahna Thomas, along with Dr. Noel Howell are very thankful to Carlene Davis, Tommy Cowan, Camar Doyles, the musicians and the rest of the team for making this production possible. “With God, all things are possible,” said Dr. Howell when asked about the future of young Enoch Thomas.
