Driving In Antigua & Barbuda…

 

When visiting Antigua & Barbuda you might feel as if you’ve arrived in paradise, but after driving around the island for a day or two you’d soon realize how stressful and hellish the roads are.  Apart from there hardly being any road signs to navigate around the island it’s also noted that most roads are too narrow to pass safely and many are not paved and full of dangerous potholes that can ruin the best of cars.

A kayak expedition around Waitukabuli

On September 1st, 2021, two kayakers successfully circumnavigated the Caribbean island of Dominica. Dominica, also known as Waitukabuli in the Amerindian native tongue,  translates as “long is her body.” Our kayakers, Weston Moses and Kerry Alleyne, residents of Dominica, certainly came to know the truth of that translation over an expedition time of 4 days and 7 hours.

The impact of Caribbean anti-vax protests

It’s happening in countries all over the world. There are large percentages of national populations that are resisting taking the COVID-19 vaccine, regardless of supplier. The Caribbean hasn’t been immune to this and it has made even Antiguans, some of the more placid people in the Caribbean, take to the streets in protest of increasingly widespread requirements for full vaccination. Across the region, including Barbados,  St. Vincent and Grenada, there has been resistance against taking the coronavirus vaccine.

NEW ANTIGUA PIER ALLOWS MORE CRUISE SHIP VISITS.

                                                            
Antigua Cruise Port announced in a press statement this week that the construction of its fifth berth, the newest pier at St John’s Port, Antigua is completed. According to the statement, the $30 million investment was started before the pandemic and finalized in November 2020, despite “minimal interruption created by the unwelcome virus.”
